CES 2024: Dell shines light on AI-enabled XPS 16 and XPS 14, redesigned Alienware m16 R2
At CES 2024, Dell’s XPS family of premium devices led off with the introduction of a brand new XPS 16 and XPS 14, featuring built-in AI and Microsoft Copilot in Windows 11.
The new XPS lineup, powered by the latest Intel Core Ultra processors, incorporates an integrated AI acceleration engine with the inclusion of an NPU (neural processing unit). This signifies that the PC is no longer reliant solely on the CPU or GPU for processing and performance. For instance, as a creator constantly on the move and editing photos, the NPU automatically selects the appropriate computing engine for your task, enabling faster photo editing while maintaining battery efficiency. All XPS laptops come equipped with ExpressCharge, allowing for the replenishment of 80% battery life in just 60 minutes.
The XPS laptops are equipped with a dedicated Copilot key, offering swift access to your daily AI assistant within Windows 11. This leverages AI’s capabilities to simplify your daily tasks, such as summarizing web pages and adjusting settings, making your routine activities more effortless.
The latest XPS 16 and XPS 14 models feature immersive 16- and 14-inch displays, respectively. These screens come with InfinityEdge panels offering OLED touch capabilities, various refresh rate options, high-resolution displays, and support for Dolby Vision technology.
Leading the portfolio is the XPS 16, offering enhanced performance tailored for demanding tasks. Powered by the latest Intel Core Ultra processors and NVIDIA GeForce GPUs (with potential for up to the GeForce RTX 4070 GPU), it delivers up to 80W of sustained performance. This capability enables seamless handling of intensive applications, whether it involves video editing or experimentation with cutting-edge AI software.
Despite being 21% lighter than its counterpart, the XPS 14 effortlessly tackles demanding tasks. Equipped with optional NVIDIA GeForce GPUs (with potential for up to the GeForce RTX 4050 GPU), it allows for seamless editing and playback of high-resolution videos, along with other activities.
Dell’s gaming division, Alienware, has overhauled its renowned m16 R2 laptop to emphasize performance, versatility, and portability. The objective was to develop a robust notebook capable of running even the most demanding games, while also being compact and discreet enough for effortless transportation between locations. The redesigned 16-inch gaming laptop now features an improved thermal solution, resulting in a 43% increase in airflow efficiency within a footprint that is 15% smaller. Despite its reduced dimensions, it boasts a larger palm rest and touchpad for enhanced comfort and usability.
Another addition to this updated version is Stealth Mode, an option that disguises the m16 R2, enabling it to blend seamlessly into its environment. This useful feature was inspired by individuals who deemed RGB lighting effects to be disruptive in communal settings such as libraries, classrooms, and cafes. Now, simply pressing the F2 shortcut key switches the keyboard backlighting to white, deactivates all other AlienFX lighting zones, and transitions the performance mode to Quiet to minimize fan noise.
Additionally, each laptop includes a one-month subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, providing gamers with access to a wide array of top-tier games across PC, console, and cloud platforms.
When it’s gaming time, the laptop’s Intel Core Ultra H Series processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 Series mobile graphics (with the potential for an RTX 4070) provide ample power to run the latest games at high frame rates.
