Sha’Carri Richardson reveals her favorite foods in Dallas, including Oak Cliff

Sha’Carri Richardson, the standout sprinter representing Team USA, has recently shared her favorite food spots in Dallas, giving fans a glimpse into the local flavors she loves. Richardson, who is originally from Dallas and attended Carter High School in Oak Cliff, is currently competing in the 100m dash at the Paris Olympics. As of August 2, she has successfully won her opening heat and will move on to the semifinal round scheduled for Saturday.

Despite being far from her Dallas home, Richardson took a moment to reveal her top culinary picks from her hometown in an Instagram interview posted by NBC. Her choices highlight some of the best local spots that Dallas has to offer.

For chicken tenders, Richardson swears by Golden Chick. This popular chain was founded just south of Austin in 1967 and has since grown to over 200 locations across the southern U.S., with its headquarters now based in Richardson. Golden Chick’s reputation for delicious, crispy tenders makes it a favorite for Richardson.

When it comes to pizza, Richardson gives a special shoutout to Big T Plaza in Oak Cliff. She describes it as her go-to spot, stating, “If you know, you know Dallas.” Big T Plaza is a single-level shopping center that features a variety of stores, including apparel, jewelry, and hair braiding services, and is located off Village Fair Dr. It’s known for its diverse offerings and community vibe, making it a beloved spot for locals.

For burgers, Richardson heads to Blackjack Pizza, which has garnered acclaim from the Dallas Observer for having “one of the most underrated burgers in Dallas.” This recommendation highlights Richardson’s discerning taste and her appreciation for high-quality, yet often overlooked, dining experiences.

Tacos are another area where Richardson has a clear favorite: Fuel City Tacos. Situated just south of downtown on Riverfront Blvd., Fuel City is known for its fast, budget-friendly street tacos. Its reputation for delivering flavorful, authentic tacos makes it a top choice for Richardson.

Reflecting on her experiences, Richardson notes the abundance of food options in Dallas, which sometimes makes it challenging for her to narrow down her choices when she returns home. “There are so many places to choose from that I have to restrain myself when I get home,” she says, emphasizing the rich culinary landscape of her city.

In addition to her favorite food spots, Richardson also shares a more personal connection to her hometown. She refers to Carter High School as her “spot for a good cry.” When she’s back in Dallas and needs to unwind, she finds solace at her old high school track. “If I’m back home and need to relax and be alone, I go to my old high school track,” Richardson explains. “I like to return to my home track, sit there, reflect on how things started, and see how far I’ve come.” This sentimental journey underscores the deep ties she maintains with her roots and the significant role her past plays in shaping her present.
