Margot Robbie Reveals Surprising Reason She Couldn’t Portray Kylie Minogue in Biopic
Margot Robbie was Kylie Minogue’s first choice to be casted in the potential biopic
Margot Robbie has officially ruled herself out of portraying Kylie Minogue in any future biopic about the pop icon’s life, despite Minogue herself previously naming Robbie as her ideal choice for the role.
The revelation came during Robbie’s recent appearance on BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast Show with host Scott Mills. During the conversation, Mills mentioned that Kylie had, on more than one occasion, expressed her wish to see the Barbie star take on her life story on the big screen.
Caught completely off guard, Robbie was stunned by the news. “She did not?! Why has nobody ever told me this before?! That is wild information!” the actress exclaimed in disbelief, making it clear that this was the first she had heard of such a suggestion.
Although Robbie was visibly flattered by Minogue’s confidence in her, she politely explained why she felt she could never do justice to the part. “I am beyond honoured. Of course I could not — I can’t sing,” she admitted candidly. She went on to add, “I can’t sing like Kylie. I don’t like it when people can’t actually sing and end up doing a singing movie. It just doesn’t feel right.”
Despite her hesitation about playing the Australian pop superstar, Robbie spoke warmly about her personal connection with Minogue and their first meeting, which she described as unforgettable. Recalling the moment she got a call with the message, “Kylie Minogue would like to meet up with you,” Robbie said she was overjoyed: “I thought, ‘Oh my God, this is the best day of my life.’”
The meeting, which took place at the famous Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, left a lasting impression on Robbie. “She sat down, and she was the coolest, warmest, most divine creature you’ve ever met,” Robbie said, showering praise on Minogue.
Robbie further revealed that their encounter wasn’t professional in nature, but purely social. “She just said, ‘I just thought, you’re an Aussie, I’m an Aussie, and we’ve never met. We should probably hang out and get cocktails.’ There was no work conversation whatsoever — we just got drunk together,” Robbie laughed, recalling the fun evening.
Meanwhile, Kylie Minogue continues to dominate headlines as she embarks on a new chapter in her career. The award-winning singer has signed a lucrative seven-figure deal with Netflix for a forthcoming tell-all documentary that will delve into her decades-long career, personal life, and global stardom. Production on the project is set to begin later this year, further fueling speculation about whether a biopic could also be in the works in the near future.
