Biryani actor says she values respect more than fame
Fans have been eagerly anticipating the third installment of the blockbuster franchise Jawani Phir Nahi Ani. Yet one lingering question had everyone curious — will Sarwat Gilani reprise her beloved role as Gul?
In a recent interview, the acclaimed actor finally set the record straight — and her response took many by surprise.
The Biryani star revealed that she will not be appearing in the upcoming film. According to Sarwat, her decision came after an unpleasant experience with the team following the second movie.
“After the sequel, things changed. The attitude of the director Nadeem Baig, Humayun Saeed, and the rest of the team shifted, and I felt like I didn’t belong there anymore,” she shared candidly.
Recalling one particular incident, she said she had booked her ticket to London for the film’s promotions but was later left completely out of the loop. “No one responded after that. It shouldn’t happen that way — but they went ahead and did what they had to do.”
Gilani emphasized that respect is far more important to her than fame. “I can’t work with people who don’t respect my craft,” she asserted.
Talking about her character Gul, the Churails star explained that she returned for the second film only because she felt the story wasn’t complete after the first one. “But now it feels like you’re used when needed and discarded afterwards,” she added.
She also mentioned that her attempts to discuss her concerns with the director were ignored. “The way I was treated made my decision easier, even though my character’s arc remained unfinished,” she said.
Despite her disappointment, Sarwat remains optimistic and proud of her recent projects. She received immense praise for her powerful performance in Biryani and shared her desire to take on even more dynamic roles ahead.
“I don’t choose roles — the roles choose me,” she concluded with grace.
