After being crowned Miss Utah, Rachel found out about her own mental health battles in a gut-wrenching Instagram post In it, he explained that he attempted suicide after losing the same competition years ago, before being hospitalized multiple times and eventually being diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder.
“Let’s just get to the point: The last time I tried to end my life was 19 years old, and it was the night I lost to Miss Utah USA. ‘Why can’t I do enough?’ This is my 7th pageant, my 5th time competing in Miss Utah USA, and tonight I finally got my hands on the biggest dream of my life … After a few trips to psych ward, who was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder (which is why I reacted so badly to losing a pageant) and finally figured out who I was as a queer woman. And the only difference between this night and the night I left the heartbroken hearts wishing I was not alive, I knew I was good enough before I came in. I am thankful for this crown. my truth. “
Yas, Miss !!
By sharing her truth, Rachel plans to shed more light on popular topics such as sexuality and mental illness and hopes to make a difference in one’s life.
“But if I’m being honest with you, this crown is a new job, not an answer to the question I have spent the last 9 years. ‘Why am I here?’ So do you. If you are in crisis, please text TALK to 741741, and keep in mind that you are always entitled to help, and you deserve your greatest dream. “
